Bucks County Triathlon Club 2016 Meet & Greet
WASHINGTON CROSSING, PA (JANUARY 18, 2015) – Author, triathlete, coach and cancer survivor Stephen “RemissionMan” Brown will share his message of perseverance and inspiration at the Fourth Annual Bucks County Triathlon Club (BCTC) Meet and Greet event 6 p.m. Saturday, February 6, at the Feasterville Firehouse, 20 Irving Place, Feasterville-Trevose, PA.
Brown trained for triathlons while being treated for a chronic form of leukemia. Just seven months after his initial diagnosis he completed an iron-distance triathlon (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run). He has completed twelve iron-distance triathlons and has been active as a coach for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training. Brown most recently authored “Relentless Mettle – My Cancer, My Rules.”
“I draw parallel lines between the challenges we face in sport and those we face in life and try to use my involvement in the multisport world as a tool to encourage people to break through barriers and understand that all things are possible,” Brown said.
Aspiring and experienced triathletes will also have the opportunity to share tips, get expert instruction and advice, and socialize. There will be refreshments, auctions and prize giveaways. A Felt Z100 Road Bike also will be awarded in a raffle at the event.
The Meet and Greet aims to bring together triathletes in the off season, promote the sport of triathlon and provide learning opportunities for anyone interested in competing in triathlons.
“This is our biggest outreach and social event of the year,” said Anthony Accardo, president of the club. “It helps our members and prospective members to start getting geared up for racing season.”
The Meet and Greet is in line with the founding principles of the BCTC: to provide a supportive, family-friendly environment for many different levels of triathletes, offer group training opportunities, and keep triathlons fun. Officially founded in 2012, BCTC is a USA Triathlon-chartered training and racing club. The club grew from an informal group meeting for open water swims and triathlon training along the Delaware River and throughout Bucks County.
The club now has more than 200 members from Bucks, Hunterdon, Mercer and Montgomery Counties and includes more than 30 youth members.
