Bracht and Wellington Break Records at Ford Ironman Arizona

Germany’s Timo Bracht and Great Britain’s Chrissie Wellington celebrated wins at today’s Ford Ironman Arizona. Bracht, a multiple-Ironman champion, crossed the finish line nearly four minutes ahead of second-place finisher, Rasmus Henning (DNK). His winning time of 8:07:16 bested the previous overall record of 8:13:35, which was set in 2009 by defending champion, Jordan Rapp (USA). Wellington, a three-time Ironman World Champion, finished eighth overall and set a new world record at an official Ironman race. Wellington crossed the line in 8:36:13, nearly 30 minutes ahead of second-place finisher, Linsey Corbin (USA).

WTC Announces Qualification and Prize Distribution Details for 5150 U.S. Championship

Nov. 18, 2010 (Tampa, Fla.) – Today, 5150 U.S Championship qualification and prize distribution details are available at www.5150.com. The Hy-Vee Triathlon will serve as the 5150 U.S. Championship and is scheduled for Sept. 4, 2011, in Des Moines, Iowa. World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) is producing the new 5150 Triathlon Series; Bill Burke will serve as the managing director of the global series with Philip LaHaye in the role of director of operations for U.S.-based events. Registration for all 5150 events will open on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

Give Triathlon Back to the Triathletes

I need to vent a little bit on this new program initiated by the World Triathlon Corporation – Ironman Access. And I really hope that after I do vent, I will feel better because I really do love this sport and hate to see it tarnished. For the last few years I have been growing increasingly disgruntled at the rising cost and market saturation of the “M-Dot” product produced by the WTC but this time they have taken the greed machine way too far.
