Sometimes Stuff Happens
The weekend started out like the other five “Chessyman” ultras that I have successfully completed. I got into Cambridge on Thursday, dropped my belongings at the gorgeous house we had rented from a friend and headed over to help out race director Rob Vigorito with registration.

Living the Tri Life
Just a heads up for anyone who may be interested. I will be featured in a show called “Living the Tri Life” which is a show about all things triathlon in the city of Philadelphia. The show airs on Monday (Labor Day) 9/7/09 at 1:30 in the afternoon on 10NBC.

My Cause and Thank You
Last night I was honored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as their Team in Training "Volunteer of the Year". I have to say that the concept of receiving this award completely took my breath away. For many years I have been a big advocate of tying athletics with charitable causes. I have done events like the American Cancer Society’s and the MS rides for years. They started out simply as fun and cool ways to do events.

From Where I Sit
I am in a pretty good place; physically, mentally, emotionally, however you would like to measure "good place", I think I am there. My health is now excellent, but my diagnosis left me with a keen awareness of and an appreciation for a lot of things that I may have missed prior to February 24th, 2006.

NJM = Wet and Wonderful
Marathons aren't supposed to be WET and wonderful but that's exactly what the New Jersey Marathon was this weekend.
My Diagnosis
2005 had been a very rough year for our family. My father had become ill and spent 3 months in an intensive care unit, until we lost him in August of 2005. I spent just about every day at that hospital and became all too familiar with the hospital bistro meals, and the sights, sounds, and smells of an intensive care unit.
