New Tampa Double Ironman
Here is a very nice write up on Race Director Steve Kirby and his inaugural Tampa Florida double ironman. The Tampa double compliments Kirby’s two other races in Virginia consisting of both a double and a triple ironman.

It feels like we are on day 900 of 90 plus degree heat here in the metro Philly area. Apparently we are not alone as most of the country is sharing space in our Easy Bake Oven. My questions is, just how hot does it have to be for how long before the earth explodes? [...]

WTC Introduces New Athlete Membership Program
Oct. 27, 2010 (Tampa, Fla.) – Today, World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) launches an exclusive athlete membership program called Ironman Access. In addition to other member benefits, the program will offer advance registration for Ironman events worldwide before entries open to the general public. Membership into Ironman Access is on a first-come, first-served basis and will close once it reaches capacity.

I think people take on the challenge of endurance events because they love the challenge. They love the idea of pushing themselves, managing their own demons, and that incredible feeling of victory at the finish. (and victory can be defined very differently for every athlete). I was drawn in to the ironman because it scared me and I couldn’t conceive how the human mind, body, and spirit could endure 140.6 miles of racing. The more I didn’t understand it, the more I was drawn to it. And eventually I reached the point of magnetism as my coordinates locked on and the rest is history.

Ironman Texas Added to Ironman Series
June 24, 2010 (Tampa, Fla.) - Today, World Triathlon Corporation announces the addition of Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas to its worldwide Ironman Series. Taking place in The Woodlands, located just north of downtown Houston, the event is scheduled for May 21, 2011. The inaugural race will enhance the current Ironman calendar, which consists of 25 events around the world in locations such as Australia, China, Brazil and Germany.
Ironman Allocates $100,000 for Donation Toward Gulf Coast Oil Spill Relief
World Triathlon Corporation, owner of the global Ironman Triathlon Series, announces its contribution to the oil spill relief effort in the Gulf of Mexico. The Ironman Foundation, the company’s charitable arm, has earmarked a total of $100,000 to support the efforts and its first donation of $25,000 will be made to Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, an organization that has been instrumental in assisting those affected by the oil spill in the state of Louisiana. Ironman, headquartered off Florida’s West coast, plans to offer additional assistance to related organizations in the coming weeks.
