On the Near Horizon

I wanted to let folks know that I have been brewing another book project over the last several months. This is simply another compilation of short stories, articles, and blog posts on various subjects relating to life, cancer, triathlon, people, and anything else that may have moved me. As well as a few pieces on some friends who were lost. I realize that’s quite a broad spectrum of subject matter, but those who know me will not be surprised by that.

USA Triathlon 2010 Elite National Championship to Air on VERSUS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the first time ever, multisport fans can watch the United States' top triathletes take aim at a national title when VERSUS televises the 2010 USA Triathlon Elite National Championship on Thursday, Oct. 14, from 4-6 p.m. EDT.

Look! Up in the Sky!

Well I awoke to a fun surprise yesterday morning when my daughter text messaged me with the following: "dude, you are on a BILLBOARD"?!?!?! Well, I knew that The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was in the process of partnering with Clear Channel Entertainment to place a number of billboards around the Philadelphia area honoring the Man & Woman of the Year, I just didn't know when or where they would appear.

Saucony Run For Good Foundation Honors National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

The Saucony Run For Goodsm Foundation, established to help combat childhood obesity by providing financial support to community-based youth running programs, has announced its support for the first ever National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. In recognition of this event the Foundation renewed its commitment to help improve the health of our nation’s children with the announcement of a new round of grant winners. This announcement comes on the heels of the Presidential Proclamation declaring September “National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.”

Ironman 70.3 Series Expands to Pocono Mountains

Scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains will take place in and around the scenic Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area with a fantastic finish down Main Street in historic Stroudsburg, PA. The inaugural race will mark the first Ironman event in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and will include a multisport expo and other interactive events. Course maps and additional race details will be announced in the coming months.

In Memory of Jim MacLaren

Jim MacLaren, who at one time was the world’s fastest amputee triathlete, passed away Monday evening August 30th. His life was short but amazingly impactful. After getting hit by a New York City bus while on his motorcycle back in 1985 and having his lower leg amputated below the knee , the former Yale football player reinvented himself and became the Babe Ruth of amputee athletes, running a 3:16 marathon and going 10:42 at the Ironman in Kona, Hawaii.
